Kevin LePrince

Kevin LePrince initially earned a degree in economics in 1992 and worked as a Vice President of Investments with Wachovia Securities prior to beginning his formal art training and career as an artist. Under the tutelage of renowned artist John Carroll Doyle, LePrince was trained in the classic atelier or studio system. Early on LePrince studied with master artist David A. Leffel at the Arts Students League of New York. More recently LePrince had the opportunity to paint with greats Kim English and Gregg Kruetz at the Fechin Institute in New Mexico.

LePrince paints classical subject matter in the "alla prima" style, meaning "at once". Using this direct (wet paint into wet paint) method combined with a traditional impressionistic palette, LePrince illuminates the foreground to emphasize his subjects.

Growing up in Charleston, LePrince is very familiar with the habits and personalities of the local wildlife, and tries to give each painting a sense of individual character. His love of the Lowcountry, in combination with his keen observation and playful individuality, help him reinvent these natural scenes.

LePrince believes he inherited much of his talent from his ancestors. Early LePrince artists include Auguste-Xavier LePrince (1799-1826) and Jean-Baptiste LePrince (1734-1781). While most of these early works are held in private collections today, many have found their way into the most respected museums of the world including the Louvre in Paris and the Getty in California.

As a member of the prestigious Oil Painters of America, LePrince is nationally recognized for his ability to recreate a natural scene with his painterly technique. Collectors include Mr. Bryon Davis (Mr. Davis is the former CEO of Fisher-Price) and Jeff and Andrea Immelt. Mr. Immelt is currently the CEO and Chairman of General Electric Corporation.
