Deborah Caliva

In my studio on the Cape Fear River I make functional pottery from porcelain clay and decoration inspired by the natural world through carving, color, and crystals. My work emphasizes craftsmanship with a focus on form. I believe that the objects we use every day should be both beautiful and functional.

I began my clay study with Setsua Kotani at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a part of my BFA in Art Education and studied further with Jim Pringle in Chapel Hill and Hiroshi Sueyoshi at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC.
